Varieties of Massage

Swedish Massage

The most popular therapeutic massage type, especially for first time massage clients. This massage features a light to medium pressure. It helps relieve stress, reduce pain, boost mood, increase circulation and promote relaxation.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue is similar to Swedish massage, however the technique focuses more on the deeper layers of your muscles. This massage is meant to target knots, problem areas, and release chronic muscle tension.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is used to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. My athletic clients have discovered that specially designed sports massage, customized to their specific sport helps promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is a tight area inside the muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the shoulder, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck or even tingling in your fingers. The shoulder, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache.

Trigger point massage is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release. In this type of massage, the recipient actively participates with deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. This helps me focus in on specific trigger points to give you relief from chronic pain and tender points.

Neuromuscular Massage

Neuromuscular therapy consists of alternating levels of concentrated pressure on the areas of muscle spasm. The massage therapy pressure is usually applied with the fingers, knuckles, or elbow. Once applied to a muscle spasm, the pressure should not vary for ten to thirty seconds.

PreNatal/Pregnancy Massage

Women with normal, low-risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from the variety of massage techniques starting in the second trimester. However, women in high-risk pregnancies should consult their doctor or midwife before beginning massage therapy.

Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness! Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling).

In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension -- which aids in better sleep -- and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.

Geriatric Massage

Geriatric massage therapy is designed to address the specific needs of the elderly population. This type of massage uses gentle and light application of massage techniques and can include passive stretching and a light oil or lotion to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin! Geriatric massage can help enhance blood circulation, combat depression, improve balance and flexibility, reduce the pain of arthritis, increase joint mobility, improve posture, and encourage overall well-being. Geriatric massage can be especially helpful for maintaining and improving overall health as we age. It also has been shown to relieve anxiety and provide comfort, especially to touch-deprived elderly clients.
